17. Life Aboard Air Force One

Congratulations. You have been entrusted with the ultimate responsibility. The people of the United States of America - the most powerful nation in history — have chosen you to lead them. You are now… the president.

Your job is now to serve the people who elected you.

I know this is your first time on board as President. But don’t worry, I’m here to guide you. I’ve been here through five presidents — so stick with me and I’ll show you the ropes.

Most Americans know the president in a very formal way: always in the suit and tie. But for the next four years — or eight if everything goes well! — this plane is your home in the sky.

Captain voice:

Welcome aboard. This is the pilot from the flight deck. We’ve reached our cruising altitude — you’re now free to move about the cabin.

In this hallway — the Corridor of Presidents - I’m going to introduce you to some of your predecessors — who’ve flown before you (who I’ve served) aboard Air Force One. Walk forward to the first photo.
